RIP YouTube Vanced

Last month, YouTube Vanced was shut down (for legal reasons).

Here are my brief thoughts...

I thought it was a nice app to have. I used it sometimes for what it really shines in: playing music in the background (with no ads). I honestly never used it much for actually watching YouTube ad-free though (can't say why).

If Google was never okay with it (violates their ToS), it's interesting how it was alive for as long as it has been. They probably could have done it sooner given the reasons.

At the same time, I was afraid that something like this could happen being that it allowed people to use a paid feature for free, kind of like a full version software crack (basically paid software made to be free).

I still have the app on my phone. You can still use the app right now, but after a while it will probably break due to updates to YouTube itself and become obsolete.

So... RIP YouTube Vanced! It will be missed.

I will also say this... there probably are copies of the last version on the internet... hosting them probably isn't without risk though.
